Both players sat out the draw against Wolves with knocks and manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed ahead of Wednesday’s game that it will be nip and tuck as to whether either player makes the squad at Elland Road.
“We are fighting for Jorgi and we’re fighting for N’Golo for tomorrow, but it will be close and I don’t know if [they will] make it,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
Tuchel could choose to drop Marcos Alonso after a row with the left-back at half-time of the last-gasp draw with Wolves. The German has since assured fans that the argument between himself and his player has been resolved.
Saul Niguez should come in on the wing if the Spaniard is benched while Andreas Christensen will hope to beat Cesar Azpilicueta to a starting berth after the captain’s poor display against Wolves.
Romelu Lukaku’s two-goal performance on his return to the starting lineup is expected to keep him in the XI, although Mason Mount may replace Christian Pulisic. Ben Chilwell (knee) and Callum Hudson-Odoi (back) are out.
Predicted Chelsea XI (3-4-3): Mendy; Christensen, Silva, Rudiger; James, Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic, Saul; Mount, Lukaku, Werner.
