Major fire sends massive plume of smoke over Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan

A large fire involving tires and rubbish sent a plume of black smoke over Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. Firefighters were alerted to a large amount of smoke at about 9am on Thursday, June 23.

The fire involved approximately three tones of tires and logs in the area near Cwrt-Yr-Ala-Road in Wenvoe, South Wales Fire and Rescue has confirmed. Several fire crews and emergency services attended the scene of the fire.

Residents in close proximity to the area have been advised to keep windows and doors closed as a safety precaution due to the large volumes of smoke.

A spokesperson for the Fire Service said: “Firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the blaze involving approximately three tons of tires and logs. At approximately 9:01am on Thursday the 23rd of June 2022, we received reports of smoke in the area near Cwrt-Yr-Ala-Road in Wenvoe, Cardiff.

“Crews from Barry, Ely, Pontypridd and Cardiff Central Fire and Rescue Stations attended the scene and worked alongside emergency service colleagues and partner agencies. The fire has now been extinguished, but it will continue to smoulder for a number of hours.

“Residents in the vicinity of Wenvoe are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area. We would like to thank the public for their cooperation.”
